1/15/09 [happy birthday]

366 days ago today i started this blog, taking a picture everyday. maybe not updating everyday, being so hectic with everything going on, but i kept at it. so here i am. my life in one year.

i spent the majority of my day between work and class (ironically my last day of work on my birthday). i had cultural semiotics and then got out early which was nice and then met up with dennis, violet, ashley, jason, kirk, dave, and johnny for one last dinner outing with everyone at slows, ironically my favorite restaurant on my birthday. afterwords kirk and johnny came over and hung out watching videos on youtube and listening to music. after the left i went to ypsi to go to the elbow room with my friend rachel.

i want to thank everyone who took the time to follow this and the kind feedback i received from you all. at times i just wanted to stop because i was so sick of maintaining this, but i kept at it - and i'm glad i did. i won't be updating here anymore, but maybe on another blog somewhere. if so i'll let you guys know, for anyone that found this thing semi interesting. i might start one when i move to new york city and may and keep a documentary all summer of my time there. we'll see. in the meantime along with school work, i might be compiling this blog into a book for print for myself and my portfolio, just to have something in hard form.

until then, i'm going to go eat the rest of this cake and cupcakes my mom gave me now, and maybe have some pizza (you guys know how much i love pizza.)

so i went to work this morning to pack more boxes and then ended up going to the doctors. i've been feeling so crumby lately and my throat is starting to hurt. remember when (scroll down) i had to have surgery because of that abscess on my tonsil/throat? well it's back again! this time they caught it early enough that it should be able to be taken care of with meds, if not, under the knife i go again!

i don't think i've ever packed that many boxes in my life. afterwords dennis took us to starters with violet, jason, and ashley. ashley and me had to sign the wall before we left. it's usually suppose to be for mangers and supervisors only but since i'm an "OG" of the store i got to throw my name up there as well.

my parents also put this great bday cake in my car along with a sweatshirt from supreme i've wanter forever. it fits so good, i can't wait to wear it!

i can honestly say that i've never been a metallica fan. i mean okay, i liked maybe one song but it was marginal. but tonight i was seriously blown away. i've never seen anyone play so flawless and crisp live. i was so into it that i even stayed for the whole show, which i rarely do ever.

afterwords jason from home office (whos hepling us out) went out to eat with me and nate in mexican town. jason is actually my good friend ryans old roommate and this is his first time here so we thought we'd take him for a mini tour of detroit. spending time with him on his visit makes me even more excited to move in may. i feel like everyone i met from new york i just click with instantly.

1/12/09

today was my first day of school. i worked in morning though and then had to come back after my class to come start to help with inventory (which was surprisingly fast this time).

i really can't get enough of these shoes. i almost didn't even buy them when i first saw them. seriously the sickest colors and best material. so comfy too. i've never been able to find another pair or see them for sale anywhere but st. alfreds (where i got them). i wish i could get a second pair.

after working tonight dennis took me, dave, johnny, violet, and jason out to tgi fridays for dinner. i seriously cannot get enough of their strawberry lemonde slushies!

1/11/09

today everyone moved back. it was good to see nate, dustin, and nick again.
my parents also came down to go out to have dinner for my birthday (we went to slows obviously). afterwords i came back and caught up with dustin and andrea, who was visiting, and then went to go shoot dancing with the stars.

highlight of the night was seeing lance bass obviously.

rachel came to work with me today and ended up getting some jeans until alex came to come pick her up.

today was also one of my last full days at work with the store open. i worked with kirk and ashley. it was a little bittersweet but i think it will be more so when it comes to the last day.

either way. i'll never need another pair of jeans.

and this isn't even all of them.

1/9/09

tonight i had to go down to the fox to photograph hairspray: the musical. i haven't shot for olympia in awhile so it was felt like i was getting back into the swing of things, especically with school beginning here soon.

tonight was also my friend SP's birthday party at his house. it was actually a celebration/going away party for one of his other friends but there was a ton of capricorns in the house. i got to hang with adam, my childhood friend david, jake (who i didn't even knew SP) danny, james (aka DJ grape head, DJ steve urkle, the black joe montana) and then rachel and her friend sarah came to join the party. SP is always stylin' real hard.

1/8/09

nine hour shifts are rough. the best part was the fact that we get an hour long break which means me and kirk went to fuddruckers and ate cheeseburgers and played in the arcade. we played hoops and then kirk won a blue alligator in the crane game. best break ever!

that night after work one of my good friends neil was in town and we were able to go out to eat and catch up. we use to be really close and had a falling out due to petty things. he goes to school and spends most of his time in new york now. since i'll be there in the summer hopefully we can make up for lost time. i really miss hanging out with him.

after work tonight i went to my friend rachel's house. one of her roommates got a cat so we went to go see it. later we went and got pizza and ran into nick sands on the way back. we came back to play with kyle and he showed me his new sleeveless leather jacket and watched more stella and zack and miri.

today was a pretty exciting day. my fall out boy photos were posted on the front page of the news and networking site friends or enemies. the site is owned by my place of work for the summer in new york city, this is just a portion of what i'll be working on. i'm really looking forward to the exposure i'll be getting there for my work and it's really a chance to share with everyone what i have to offer and meet some great people.

i've been eating so much pizza lately. tonight it was a cheese deep dish from little caesars with spice paks. can't get enough of those spice paks.

i tried watching saw 5 on my computer but kept getting distracted. i'm bummed i missed it at the dollar show.

i never thought i'd ever wear a jean jacket again. i tried this on and fell in love with it, super slim fitting and looks amazing with black jeans. after work i went to see my friend caitlyn who is having surgery in couple days. afterwords i went to rachel's house to hang out and watch movies.

i've been getting so many packages lately. today i got this great thin navy cardigan.
i can never have enough cardigans.

but today was also another shell shock. we had an emergency meeting at work.
when i got there we ended up having a conference call with our district manager and head of human resources only to find out that diesel fairlane is closing. i was pretty devastated because now this means i'm basically unemployed. at least i'll be receiving a severnce check, as for unemployment, i don't think i work enough to receive it. i really feel for all of my co-workers as well. ironically our last day is on my birthday, january 15th. the notice is short but sometimes it just has to happen like that.

afterwords are manager took us (whoever wanted to go) out to eat. it ended up just being me, dave, johnny, and our manager, violet.

so no car and no job.
worst break ever?

1/1/09 [happy new year]

woke up around 10am today, for being out late i was wide awake. my friend kyle was also staying at kelly's with his girlfriend. we watched the nhl winter classic on tv where the blackhawks were playing the red wings outside in an ice rink built on wrigley field. before i headed home i went to get pizza (i'm in chicago, i had to!) and then headed to the megabus stop for my trip back. on my way home i realized that i was going to be walk about five blocks back to my apartment around midnight in detroit. i was able to get ahold of my friend jake who happened to be in ann arbor and was staying the night there so he was able to pick me up when we stopped in ann arbor. he then dropped me off at my friend rachels where me and her went to get pizza from nypd and then went back to her place to watch stella videos and rocket science.

12/31/08 [new years eve]

the ride was awful. i was super early for my bus and stood outside freezing waiting for it. it was so packed and i barely slept on the way there. the megabus isn't made for a 6'1" person to sleep on. when we were at the bus stop i ran into my friend casey who was on his way there also to spend new years in chicago.

when i arrived i went to visit some friends that work at the chicago diesel store. afterwords i just walked around and went to a couple shops before finally heading over to my friend kelly's place to get ready to go out that night with her friends emily and gabe. it was super cold waiting for the bus and we ended up getting lost on the way there so we eventually just took a cab. when we got there it was packed. they had two seperate rooms with two dj's spinning at once. so-me was probably the best (other then justice). afterwords i went over to a party at six corners in wicker park before eventually taking a cab back to kellys (where they went home early) and passing out on the couch.

the heat is broken in my apartment.
i just sat on the couch layered in sweaters and blankets most of the day watching a documentary on war profiteering in iraq.

i worked this morning with kirk. he didn't seem to have a great christmas either. we talked about life and relationships most of the morning since it was slow. i haven't had a serious conversation in awhile or one with kirk. it felt good to get a lot off my chest.

i was also suppose to be photographing lil wayne tonight, but as i mentioned earlier, the shoot was canceled. still bitter.

while i was at work my dad went to the dealership to clean out my car. a lot of memories in this box.

12/25/08 [merry christmas]

my mom collects ornaments. as you can see, she still puts everyone up on the tree, i don't know how she does it but they all manage to stay on there. one christmas, when we still had our basset hound, our tree fell over. my mom was furious and though it was the dog but then she looked at the tree stand only to realized that it had snapped from having too many ornaments on it.

my dad came to pick me up from my place around noon to go back to my house to have christmas dinner with the extended family that was coming over. on the way there he said he got a call from the dealership about my car last night after dinner saying that the damage to the car was too severe and had to be totaled out. it's pretty devastating and put a real damper on my day. on day where you're suppose to be your happiest, i was pretty shell shocked.

the only smile that came out of me that whole day was when my aunt handed me a card with a gas card in it for christmas.

12/24/08 [christmas eve]

no one likes working christmas eve, especially ashley.

the damage on my car is worse then they suspect. odd because there is no body damage, all internal. at this point they are looking at totally my car due to the frame possibly being bent. i'm losing my mind. my shoot with lil wayne was also canceled. i'm going to miss seeing my friend mike at his party saturday because even if my car is salvagable then i won't have it back til next year. things are just getting worse and worse.

my dad took me back to my apartment tonight so that i can get work done for olympia.
i spent christmas eve ordering pizza and watching "it's a wonderful life" on my couch by myself. i think the heat is broken.

i hope everyones christmas is better then mine and you are spending it with you family.

someone wake me up from this nightmare.

pf chang's lunch bowls are relitivly cheap and about the only thing decent to eat in the mall. the crispy honey chicken isn't bad so i've been relying on this for lunch.

i come home from work at 4 or 5 and go to bed until i have to be up at 6am the next day. there is nothing to do at home.

i just want to see my friends again.

my dad took me downtown to grab some of my things so that i have clothes for work and what not until i can get my car back. i'll be living out of bags until then.

i'm already getting homesick from my place.

on my way to work early this morning i hit a chunk of ice on the freeway putting my car out of commission. i guess a bunch of parts on the underside are going to have to be replaced. hopefully it isn't as bad as they say and i'll only be without it for a couple days. until then i've moved back to my parents so that i'll have a ride to work every day this week.

eck. not a good time to not have a car.

there was so much snow today. i had to wait awhile to go back down to my apartment because the roads were so bad.

i went to sam's and made christmas cookies with her and watched charlie brown christmas and then eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. i'm really going to miss spending time with her when she has to go back to chicago.

my parents gave me my christmas/birthday present early today. i finally have a new camera and i love it. i had to shoot mannheim steamroller tonight for olympia tonight, not the most exciting thing to shoot but being on a new system made it a lot more enjoyable.

i'm staying the night at my parents tonight because i have a dentist appt. tomorrow and plus were suppose to get dumped on with snow.

so my replacement jacket finally came today. i can finally be warm again.
my friend sam is home from chicago now so tonight we went out to get pizza and then ended up going to the movies to see australia. we were the only people in the theater (which i guess is expected for going to the late show on wednesday night to see a movie that isn't very popular). it was really good minus the fact we didn't know it was going to be over three hours long. by the end of the movie we were both super tired.

i did a mad cleaning job on our place today. with school being so busy during the semester it's easy to let this place go. i'm glad things look new again.

tonight was definitely a treat for me. after shooting some stuff at olympia and i had the privilege to photograph fall out boy for my upcoming internship in manhattan this summer. it was everything i hoped and expected it to be. this band never ceases to amaze me live. for as much bad mouthing they get they really deserve every ounce of praise they are given and you would be kidding yourself if you said that they have done nothing but ruin music. they've paved more roads for bands then any other. i also got to run into my friend avanthi at the show. i haven't seen her in ages so that was good to see her again.

after the show i went to leos with caitlyn, courtney, and rina. i don't get to see much of caitlyn and courtney any more so it was really good to see them again also.

my winter coat came today. i was super excited until i realized after this picture that it was missing a button so now i have to send it back because it didn't come with an extra and i'm picky like that. at least they said they would overnight me a new one. i also stopped by my film teacher from last years class to see how he was doing. he's one of the few teachers i've actually connected with since being at this sad excuse for college.

afterwords i went and got subway with leigha and her friend jessica.

today i had my presentation with my nike team. here you can see some of the photography i did for nike and michigan state displayed on the canopy that my graphic designer had printed. it turned out amazing. they really enjoyed the final commercial as well. i was so exhausted by the end of the day but i could truly feel the weight being lifted off of my shoulders.

as you can see from the previous day, i own the same shirt now in blue. we had both colors at work and in my size and i'm all about gingham. plus i love when collars are buttondown.

i presented my senior thesis process today. it went a lot better then i expected.
i'm really tired and nervous.
i present to nike tomorrow and then off for a month.
i have absolutely nothing to do saturday so i plan on taking a sabbatical.

my hair is greasy here because i don't have time to wash it.

i got dressed up today even though i wasn't presenting. i like getting dressed up so when given the chance to do so i run with it. plus when everything is super cheap at work i'll take advantage of that too.

i don't know how but i did.

the mats turned out pretty good and i'm really happy with the series.

i got in at about 8:30am and worked with brooke in the lab the whole night.
now i get to sleep for about 4 hour and then 9 hours of class.

let me be the first to say i'm awful at cutting mats. i have no idea how i'm going to do cutting these for my color class. i even went as far to go to blicks to get precut mats but they didn't even have the right size. i've never really cut a successful mat so we'll see how this goes.

oh and i accidentally bought glossy on my way to work and i've never printed on it before.

i spent a good portion of my night printing. chris lighthall was in the lab with me as well as ally so it was actually kind of fun working. the glossy prints look really good actually, i think i like it better then luster. we ended up watching pete and pete and wonder showzen on the projector while we worked so that helped.

i walked back to my apartment around 8pm. just in time for daylight.

me and dustin figured out how to three way chat today so we did with our friend lauren from chicago that goes to loyola. even though dustin is right across the room from me it was still funny. we were getting werid audio delay and since it was all distorted and lo-fi it just sounded like a bunch of humpback whales were hanging out in our place when we made loud noises.

i woke up super early this morning to go photograph my friend adam's pieces he designed. it's a bummer he's moving to nyc soon. i'm really going to miss working with him. i didn't get much sleep the night before so by the time it was afternoon i was dead tired. i passed out on the desk in senior studio to wake up with my phone on the ground along with all my papers and my rough draft of my senior thesis.

i left my hard drive in senior studio tonight and had to go back at 1am to get it. i need to not do that since my entire life is on there and i haven't had time to back it up.

i never get time to play my guitar during the school year. i always feel so rusty whenever i go to play. it's like i need to rebuild the callus on my left hand every time. i finally got some free time tonight so i decided to take a break and play a bit.

i watched a errol morris documentary called standard operating procedure today. i really like his style. his documentaries are so interesting with his ambient soundtrack and always has the interviewee look straight into the camera with these shallow depth of field, slow motion reenactments.

later i watched there will be blood. another great film. it was my first time seeing it. the more and more i watch paul thomas anderson movies, the more i notice kubrick in his work.

i woke up at huey's apartment on the couch at around 2pm with no one around. i walked outside and it was snowing pretty hard. it started to make me look really foward to winter. i kind of enjoyed it even though the drive was rought.

dustin had these great all white long johns on today and nate had black ones so i made nate go put his on. this is one of the first pictures i've taken with my new camera. the polaroid is bad quality but i'm still into it.

later that night i met with my nike team and we talked about our projects so far. everyone is really into everyones work. i can't wait to see it all put together.

work was a drag this morning but i made it through.
afterwards my mom called me to see i could stick by home for a bit.

christmas came early today and there is why.

later that night i went to my friend huey's roommates 21st birthday party at tgi fridays. i got a little lost on the way there but it was worth it. i ran into my friend sam from chicago who was in town still from thanksgiving. afterwards we headed to huey's with part of the gang and just hung out and talked til around 6am. i ended up passing out on the couch.

i didn't really care how my hair looked today. i kind of just got out of the shower and let it be.

i ended up meeting up with kirk and adam for dinner at millers and then headed to funk night to meet up with my friends caitlin and correy who were in town. it's always good partying with them, always puts me in a good mood.

too bad i have to work in the morning!

11/27/08 [happy thanksgiving!]

finally a day off! happy thanksgiving. i went to my uncle chuck and diane's with my mom, dad, sister, and grandma and had dinner there. we found out that my cousin eddy and his wife marci are having twins so that was exciting news. i kept falling asleep after dinner due to the amount of food i ate and the lack of sleep and still recovering from the shoot yesterday. my dad decided to take me home to get some rest. but before i did i ate this gnarly cookie my mom had given me with a pilgrim on it!

11/26/08

today was super hectic. today was the day of the big nike commercial shoot. i began prepping at 1pm and was still running behind schedule when it came to 4pm. the first part of the shoot went great and finished ahead of schedule with the first actor. for the second we ran into some wardrobe and prop problems. 8:30 rolls around and i had to duck out of the studio so that i could go photograph john legend for olympia. i barely made it on time but i did by parking illegally. came back out and my car was still there and headed back to the studio and broke the rest of the equipment down. i had gotten extra tickets so i ended up going with my friend kirk from work to check out the rest of the show.

11/24/08

i felt dead all day today. i even took a 5 hour energy to keep me going but i just felt in a haze. my mind was strong by my body was still sluggish. i think i got two hours of sleep at the most.

after work i headed up to school to go to class. i got a text from victoria about the guys still being in town and she asked me to join her and her friends to go see twillight. i've heard all this fuss about the movie and said might as well. i headed over to the birmingham palladium and met up with her and her friends. it was okay at best. the story was that of a wb teen show, pretty cheesy but it was a cute story. i wouldn't mind giving it another watch.

afterwards i went and picked up gabe who had been at the spa all day to get some rest and we headed up to pf changs to meet back up with victoria and her friends. i don't know how but i got so mixed up in birmingham and got so lost. either way, we made it to the restaurant and gabe joked about how he got the grand tour of detroit courtesy of my poor directional skills. nikki ended up meeting up with us and we had these amazing vegetarian dishes and ever better desserts, a cheesecake and chocolate cake.

after dinner we headed to the bus where i ran into alex getting on talking about how many great deals him and ryland had got at somerset that day. when we got on they were watching home alone for and just relaxing. gabe made this great honey tea that helps ease sore throats. on the verge of being sick i felt so much better after drinking it. i watched home alone with alex for a bit and then headed into the hotel with gabe and nikki to watch tropic thunder and relax. i ended up getting pretty tired so i called it a night and headed home.

11/23/08

today i rode up to grand rapids with courtney, huey, and rina to go visit some friends that were in town and check out the show. when i got there me, gabe, alex, and victoria ended up watching the stella shorts that i gave gabe (since i had an extra copy). i hadn't watched the dvd the whole way though so there was a lot that was new to me. afterwards me, ryland, alex, and victoria played rayman raging rabbits on wii, one of my most accdicting games ever, especially when plaiying mini games.

i shot some stuff during the show, it'd been awhile since i've shot a show like one of these. it was refreshing since lately my work has been shot from a soundboard rather then a barrier. after the show us and another one of the bands headed over to a club we got invited too. the club was kind of bust but we enjoyed it none the less.

around 3am i finally headed home with nikki and her friends back to detroit.

11/22/08

worked all day today. i got two free pairs of jeans at work though from the ss08 season after getting denim apostle at our store. i basically know everything about denim, fits, fabric, etc. so test me!

after work i went and had dinner with my parents. i found my hat i got when i went to alaska in high school. the town we were in was former russian territory and the had a huge army surplus store. the size in all in russian but it fits great. most people there still speak the language also.

after i came back and napped for a bit and then grabbed starbucks with my friend megan and then went to see role models again. even better the second time around!

oh yeah, and i shaved right after i took this. i was starting to look scummy.

11/21/08

tonight i went and shot the rocketttes at joe louis area. i was able to surprise my mom and her friends and get them tickets (through my boss). i'm not really a fan of the show but everyone loved it. it was really good to see my mom happy, i don't get to see her or my dad much anymore and seeing them happy makes it even better.

at one point there was multiple santas on stage. it was a little creepy. wasn't into it.

after the show i got indian for dinner. i hadn't really eaten much all day so i just induldged. if you've never had tandouri chicken, you're missing out.

later i stopped by the bronx to say hi to aubrey because she was in town and then went to leos with daniel.

i was on the run all day today. i had to go all the way out to titan to drop off film and then go to class and then leave class early only to get yelled at and then go down to the fox to shoot 'white christmas' and then come back to have a meeting with my nike group.

i went and shot some photos with daniel today. the weather wasn't as snowy as we expected so the location changed for sure. i shot film and digital. i'm anxious to see how the film turned out. afterwords we went to millers. it's been awhile since i've been there.

if you've never been to millers in dearborn, mi and love cheeseburgers you're missing out.

worked at 9am this morning. i'm still beat from the day before.
i have way too many clothes down here at school and even more shoes.

when i got back me and ryan went to go see role models with my friends brianna and her friend jamie. it was a lot funnier then i expected. afterwords we went to leos and people watched. never a dull moment.

unfortunately i don't have a photo for today at this time, i shot on film and it's still at the lab being processed but will update very soon with an image from today!

i got up super early to catch the megabus back to detroit. chicago is freezing in the winter time and it's only november. i got to my stop in ann arbor and took a 5 hour energy since i had a whole day of work ahead of me. i was definetly alert for the rest of the day, those things are nuts. i worked with kirk and ashley and ended up closing with just ashley. when we were leaving i still had film left in my camera and it was snowing pretty hard so i took some pictures of her to finish the role. afterwards i went out to dinner with my parents at applebees and then headed back to school.

today i went to the store opening for nike. it was a pretty amazing store. way too many shoes that i want. they also had a display up that had different basketball players real shoes. i think the biggest size was an 18. the event was far outside the city so the cab was kind of expensive.

afterwords i came back and got dinner at chipolte and then hung out at caitlin and correys taking a nap. later on, me and joe got pizza at chili macs and then went out to the LBC to hang out one last time before i left for home.

i can't believe i ate the whole pizza.

so today i got in around one and dropped my bags off at caitlin and correys. i ended up going downtown to get food and walked around a bit and then back to the lakeview area. i got this great electric blue cardigan hoodie, totally all about it. later on me, rachel, erin, dave, and correy decorated the apartment because they were having an astronauts and aliens party that night.

we started to get hungry so me and erin went out to go get more supplies and get food. we went to the whole foods buffet and i got way too much. on the way to the art store we passed design within reach and i saw my friend chris working so i stopped in to say hey to him as well.

that night i ended up going to a free screening of the justice documentary "a cross the universe." it was really well done and it makes me want to go to chicago this new years to see them. afterwards there were some dj's spinning so i ended up hanging out there with my friend sam.

by the time i got back the party was over. i was pretty bummed.

today is probably one of my most overlooked holidays, veterans day. especially for the time we are in now i would hope for it to be a bit more relevant. it's not a matter of celebrating it whether you agree with the current situation or not, if that were the case it would be selfish to view it as that. i had to privilege to meet some veterans today at a ribbon signing for the troops overseas at the fox today for olympia. take some time out today to be thankful for what we have.

tonight i went up to msu to visit my friend jon from high school. i was also up there to shoot some stuff of the msu basketball team for nike and jon was nice enough to give me an extra ticket to sit in the izzone for the game with him. it was really good to see him, it has almost been three years since the last time i saw him. it was great catching up.

after the game i stopped by to visit my other friend ally that goes to msu. i haven't seen her in awhile either so it was good catching up.

the drive home was far too long, but i made it home in time to get taco bell drive thru!

my mom gave me this basket full of candy for halloween and i never really ate much of it until today. i found these great glasses in there though, i wish i would have found them earlier.

today i had millers with my parents for the first time in awhile. it was good to catch up with them and also eat there. it was definitely overdue.

i usually try to stay relatively neat and clean but i've just become so overwhelmed that i've just gotten messy again. once christmas break comes hopefully i'll get organized once winter break hits.

didn't really do much of anything. the highlight of my day was watching the darjeeling limited finally. it didn't let me down one bit.

i've been looking for a pair of brown dress shoes for awhile and finally found a pair that i liked. it made it even better that i got them 75% off.

tonight we went and saw gregory green in our sound design class at mocad. he builds these sculptural pieces that are basically real working bombs and put thems in art instillations. it was pretty interesting. ironically he's a pacifist. his work is definitley worth checking out.

my new winter hat from supreme came in the mail today.
i look like waldo now and i'm perfectly okay with that.
it also makes me like a foot taller.

the election buzz is slowly dying along with all the negativity that came with it. i'm really glad about that.

tonight me and dustin went on a search for a plastic goose for his project and turned up empty handed. we ended up at leos for dinner and hung out with andrea for a bit.

i think i'm going to actually get a decent nights sleep tonight!

11/4/08 [Election Day]

i was really sick of hearing about the election. it always seems to bring the worst out in people. i feel like it's a time for young (and old) people to sound a lot more knowledgeable than they really are. it seems like most people will lean to one side because the rest of the heard does. i use to enjoy politics in high school but i've grown tired. yes, i voted and yes, i'm happy with who i voted for, but hope that for the ones who didn't see their candidate become elected can realize that we are still all in this together, regardless of what party is in charge.

today history was made. the first black president ever was elected.
lets hope we get what we were promised in these next four years.

today was the first monday in awhile that i didn't have to work. i was able to catch up on a little bit of sleep and then went to class. i went with nate and also shot some film. when we were outside we saw casey romping around so we decided to go over a play with her. she makes me miss having a dog. hopefully after i graduate and star to settle in i can finally get another.

today i worked at joe louis. i shot a gymnastics event this time. way different from shooting a band.

tonight i went to see one of my favorite singer/songwriters perform. i haven't been to a show in awhile for the sole purpose of just going to listen and enjoy myself. it was a nice escape.

10/31/08 [Happy Halloween!]

met with nike in a video conference today. it went well. our instructors told us that we have the most solid concepts out of the rest which makes me feel real positive about the outcome.

i came back from class and took nap and then put on my halloween costume and headed to mocad with dustin for their halloween party. it was a bit slow so we headed over to the russell industrial for a vans custom sneaker show where we met up with nate and nick. i ran into caitlyn, courtney, rina, marshy and matzat there. since it was later we headed back to mocad where it was way more crowded this time. dustin ended up leaving a bit early and i ended up hanging out with my friend tim and his friends and we went over to russell because mocad was dying down.

by this time (2am) russell was nuts. my friend mike was in town from new york so i got him to head over. it was great seeing him. i also ran into adam and my friend rachel.

i ended up getting back around 4am. good to know i had work the next morning at 10am.

today was my last day here. i met up with dezmon in wicker park to take some portraits of him. it was a bit rushed but i was satisfied with the results. afterwords i ended up swinging by st. alfreds and getting these amazing vans eras that are make for biking. they were even on sale so it made it that much better.

the bus ride home was super long and crowded. i didn't sleep well this time.

today was super busy. so many galleries and such. the highlight of the day was visiting the photographer sandro's studio. he was extremely insightful and polite. he was very passionate and willing to answer any questions and his work was phenomenal.

later that night i met up with lauren and her friends emily and samantha. i was starving and didn't have a chance to eat yet that day (well they had sub sandwichs for us but i always get sick when eating them so i only had a little bit) and me and emily wanted taco bell so to go we had to go with lauren and samantha to their libertarian club meeting. it was a little awkward but i made the best of it. i use to enjoy politics but now it just makes me tired. we ended up getting taco bell after and then we parted ways. i headed over on the subway to lakeview after that to caitlin and coreys and carved pumpkins with them, brad, and dezmon.

i have the biggest light leak on this photo because i thought i had wound the film the whole way and opened it but i'm a nerd and totally blew it. but the colors look great together. if you can't tell it's me on the security monitor of a subway platform at night.

woke up at around 7:30 today. i was so worn out from the night before and not getting in until 4am. we went to the catherine edleman gallery and were headed over to the art institute when me and my friend chris decided we wanted to do our own exploring. we walked around and ironically ran into my friend gabrielle that i had been trying to get ahold of so we had small talk with her. we ended up at a starbucks (i think i drank my weight in hot chocolate since i've been here, it's so cold.)

later we met up with the group and ate dinner at cafe luxe, this super fancy restaurant and i had the fanciest chicken fingers and fries ever. ccs paid for the bill so that was even better. i came back to the room and i was so tired from the night before that i just ended up falling asleep.

10/27/08

so i got about a half hour of sleep last night and met up with the group early to get to the megabus. it ended up raining at the stop and i got soaked. no fun.

i snoozed the whole way there. as soon as we got in we went to the hotel which was a really junkie howard johnson in the downtown area. didn't bother me too much though, i was only sleeping there. after that we went to gino's east and had pizza. the remained of the day we went to the chicago tribune newpaper to see how things are run there.

that night ended up hanging out with my friend lauren. we went to a jazz club and then grabbed starbucks and headed to her dorm and video chatted with dustin (whom i know her through).

i headed home around 3am riding the subway alone. yikes!
it was actually more crowded then i though, and not with ghouls either.

walking back from the grand station i passed mcdonalds and was so hungry that i decided to go in and grab something (the rock n roll mcdonalds in chicago is open 24 hrs. how glorious). i ended up running into my friends mike and matt who were still drunk so i sat with them for awhile while eating and then we all walked back to the hotel.

i was locked out of my room because i didn't have a key but eventually someone answered the door.

it was about 5am by the time i got to sleep.

tonight i went and photographed the hendrix experience at the fox. they did a really good job covering jimi hendrix songs.

afterwords bobby, hodge, nick, and me went to go see new kids on the block at the palace because bobby got free tickets from his dad. parking was free, the suite was free, and we got free drinks out of the fridge. i'm pretty sure we were the only guys there.

oh, and jordan knight sang "give it to you" so that made it even better.

dustin and me ended up getting chinese tonight and watching halloween iii: season of the witch. i fell asleep during the movie and decided to go to bed early (for me, that's around 11:30). i ended up waking up around 3am not being able to sleep. i ended up being awake until 7:30am.

today is dustin's birthday and this is a rad island that he's making.

so, i didn't heed the advice of my fortune from yesterday. i did way too much running around today. worked 9-3 and then drove right to titan in troy to pick my film up, stopped by somerset to look for dusty's birthday present (no luck), ate dinner in my lap on my drive to class, went to class, and then scanned film for five hours.

worked all day again today. tomorrow will be my third day working in a row. after work i went home to work on my halloween costume with my mom. it's looking really good right now. i'm not going to let the cat out of the bag quite yet, but i'll be sure to take a picture for you all on halloween.

on my way home i picked up chinese from rose garden. school and working is still getting the best of me. even my forutunes are trying to tell me to slow down.

i worked a good portion of the day today and then came back in an empty apartment. i'm not use to it being just me in here (except for in the summer). there would usually be a tv on and everyone listening to their music at the same volume, but it's just me today.

i planned on being me for the night (a complete shut in) until i got a phone call from andrea to join her at leos and then go and watch ernest scared stupid at her house afterwords.

i haven't been feeling too well lately. taking lots of naps and sleeping in when i can. the pressure of work and school is inching in on me. olivia and daniel stopped by later to see how i was doing, it's was good to see them. we were going to get food but i was far to tired to leave.

after class me and dustin went to qudoba for his birthday (even though it's next tuesday). he had a thing for free burrito's so we went and used those, i guess they sent them to him for his birthday.

my best friends are some of the most creative people i know. dustin was working real late at night last night on his yeti costumes. it's super sick and i can't wait to see it all finished.

today was super stressful (like most days, but today was one of those extra stressful ones.) i didn't get to eat anything until around 10 at night.

i had to drive back to work twice today to finish my denim apostle exam and then my dad dropped off my bike from the shop, where the crank was broken. apparently they fixed it but used the heck out of my break leaving a nice black streak on my white non-machined wheels. i keep the break on for emergencies only (since it's a fixed gear i just resist for stopping). so that put me in a grumpy mood.

on my way back from work i stopped by rose garden. this made my day just a little better.

tonight was a blast. i usually only get to see the guys once or twice a year but when i do it's always great. matt, gabe, and me always end up getting real nerdy about sneakers. i don't get to do that often since i don't know too many people that collect but it's nice to be able to vent that all out. before the show we all played some online halo but it was lagging real hard so we stopped. after the show we ended up watching part of the santa clause 3 (so bad), the cell, and jackass 2.

luckily they'll be back in about a month and a half in grand rapids so it'll be good to see them again. i owe so much to gabe for helping me out with everything. he's defintley one of the most genuine and smartest guys i know, and for all the mud that is slinged at him, he somehow is able to keep a smile on his face - and i revere that the most.

i've never had to mat anything before. well once, but it was a long time ago. if you know me, you'll probably know that i have the worst craftsmanship of all when it comes to cutting things neatly and what not, but today i took the dive. i did pretty alright on it, though i didn't have backs for anything.

i got a phone call from gabe today. i haven't really heard from him in awhile since he's always really busy. i'm real excited to get to see him and the guys/girl tomorrow.

tonight i went to a work meeting/dinner outing. we went to olive garden (which the last time i was there was when i had a girlfriend, which would make that almost four years ago). it was good to finally see kirk after he had been hit by a car riding earlier in the week. after being hit at 45mph he was lucky to come out with nothing broken and just a couple scrapes. i'm glad he's doing better.

i thought about cutting my hair a couple times, after not washing it as much it starts to take better shape. i'm thinking now i just won't cut it until i move to new york city in may.

tonight i went with dustin and andrea to leos again. i had a couple packs of polaroid film with me and took some pictures of dustin and andrea. this one has to be one of my favorites i've shot with that camera. i can't get over the picture quality. it's so satisfying to see a print afterwards and the sound of the shutter on it just makes the camera much more exciting to work with.

we had our video conference with nike today. it was pretty stressful because they could see us but we couldn't see them. pretty awkward but it went well.

tonight i went out with my friend olivia to shoot some portraits. it was a little dark when we shot but i'm excited to get the film developed. it'll be the first time getting film cross processed. this polaroid will do for now.

afterwards we met up with dustin and joelle at leos and then daniel stopped by after he got out of work.

tonight i photographed def leppard at the fox for the second time in a little over a month, it was entertaining. i got to watch the red wings hope opener on a big screen along with it which was nice. it's part of a new thing the NHL is doing now.

today me, nick, nate, and ryan woke up real early and drove up to lake huron to shoot some photos. it was weird being on the beach when it was cold but it was really relaxing. i shot some super 8, film, and some digital. i really like this portrait of ryan i made. it really does capture what a dreamboat he is. afterwards we stopped at taco bell and ate lunch and then i had to run over to olympia real fast to drop off the carrie underwood photos and straight to class. i made some prints today in color theory and then had sound design.

today is ryan's last day and it really bums me out. i'm gonna miss him being here but hopefully me and nate are going to come visit him at christmas time.

we cleaned the place up tonight. i like cleaning - weird i know, but i just need a clean area to work and be in. the rest of my life is a mess. at least i can have a bit of a clean area to rest my head.

i stayed up real late last night and woke up real late today.
it's become a routine for the most part.

i photographed carrie underwood tonight and was suppose to photograph jay-z right afterwards but due to time constraints and the chaotic state of the event it didn't happen.

after, i came back and went to ferndale with dustin and ryan. ryan let me take this picture of him, the sign was great so it was a perfect opprotunity. i really enjoy him being here. he's always up for an adventure and getting snacks. i sometimes feel a little nerdy asking him questions about film, medium format, exposure, etc. but i don't think he seems to mind. even though i consider him a good friend, he's still a little intimidating at times.

we met up with daniel and olivia and went to leo's. ryan had never heard of a coney island outside new york city and the concept of one. he was also intrigued by the idea of saganaki.

later that night we met up with mike and ian vos at the gas station across from the ford wyoming drive. we snuck in 7 people (me, dustin, nick, and lauren in mike vos' van with ian and mike in the front and ryan and casey in the trunk of nate's car with nate driving). we saw eagle eye and tropic thunder but didn't stay for tropic thunder because of how cold it was.

all in all it was a really great night.

worked 9:00-3:30 today. i was suppose to be off at 2:00 but violet bought us pizza, that's always enough to keep me around. then drove to the fox to deliver some photos from a job from the weekend. got late to senior studio at 4:45 and was there until 7:00 doing some serious critiquing on my script. just when i feel that it's tight it needs to be put back together all over again.

later i took ryan on a mini tour of detroit and dearborn. we got dinner at red star, which has vegan chinese which ryan seemed to like. we stopped by my house and he got to meet my parents and see michigan suburbia, a little different from williamsburg, new york city. on the way back through detroit we saw a bum with his hands down his pants screaming real loud and walking bowlegged. i think ryan felt a little more at home after seeing that.

today ryan flew in. nate picked him up early from the airport and then they both came in and woke me up around 12:30 (since i had class at 1:00). i conned ryan into going to my color theory for photo class with him. it was a good laugh for both the both of us. he'd had a long day so he decided not to come to sound class with me.

woke up and went to work until 2:00pm today and then went to 4:00pm class until 7:00pm. its become a normal routine for me.

later that night me, nate, and nick went and shot some more film and then came back and worked on some homework. my new boots from diesel came today too. i had not got my pair for the season yet since i've been waiting for them to be release for awhile and they're perfect. a high top mixed with a combat boot. i'm sure a picture of them will end up on here eventually.

i went out and shot some film with nate today. it's always fun just driving around, hoping out and shooting. it was a lazy sunday.

we all woke up to barack obama speaking right outside our apartment. we could see him and all the people outside from our windows. due to security reasons we weren't allowed to open our windows or go on the roof (it was being occupied by secret service agents).

later that night me and dustin went to royal oak to eat at mongolian bbq. probably had the worst service ever there.

i wasn't really feeling all there today. i went to go shoot for olympia tonight and got to shoot stephen rannazzisi and bobby lee. they were both extremely hilarous and very nice guys. later i met up with nick, dustin, and kelsey at this party tonight. it was alright. ran into some people that ended up making my night a little rough. i probably shouldn't have ended up going after all.

i had originally taken a picture of the new super 8 camera i got today, but at midnight nate turned 21 and while he was showering, me, nick, and dustin put on disguises and waited for nate to come out to spook him and take his picture. needless to say, he wasn't spooked -- he just called him dumb. dusty looks real spooky here right?!

after a long day i work i just came back and laid down. i woke up to find everyone leaving and asked where they were going and nate replied with "80's party at a frat house!"

i put on my teal jeans, leather hoodie, gold rope, michael jackson shirt and adidas high tops and left with adam, james, nate, and dustin. we showed up and it was probably the weirdest thing i've ever been to. we just thought we were at a 'wear your dopest gear' party.

we left after 10 minutes and then just hung out at the magic stick.

i met with my design team today with nike. we did research most of the time and looked at some hyperdunk samples and other prototypes that nike gave us to look at shoe construction (the flywire technology is bonkers). i had to leave a bit early to go and shoot some stuff for olympia but then came back to watch a presentation and reseach some more.

adam came to visit for a bit and me and dustin ended up going to slows with him. both those kids always have me cracking up. i'm pretty sure sp made me spit my pop out twice.

i bought these pants a lot time ago when i went to visit my friend jim in ann arbor. i bought the wrong size so he had to return them for me for a smaller size. i finally got them from my friend jake today who got them from him for me, since i hadn't been back up there. i really wasn't sure what to wear them with because they were such an odd color but they ended up going really well with my flannel jacket.

i scanned in some of my negatives finally today and they look really nice. i'm really happy with how they turned out.

jake and me left sound a little early today to venture out to a few costume shops to find a pig head mask for this other film i'm working on. no one seems to have on and i need one asap. if anyone knows where to get one please let me know!

i finished my fourth revision of my script today in senior studio. i'm really happy with what i have. it's one of the more personal films i've worked on and also deals with a sensitive social issue. the few people i've given it to who read it seemed to enjoy it as well.

jake and me left senior studio a bit early to go to a sneak preview of "towelhead" in royal oak. i invited kelsey and she met up with us. personally i hated the film (i couldnt' get over how bad the lighting and cinematography was). afterwards we went to rams horn and ate dinner and then headed back to school.

dustin, you need to quit fallin' asleep on that couch if you don't want your picture taken!

tonight olivia and daniel came over to get pizza with me and dustin at sgt. pepperonis. we got two larges and i've never eaten so much pizza in my life. i had seven slices and four cokes. i think daniel ate about the same. we were both about to pass out afterwards.

after work i had to drive as fast as i could to troy to pick up my film from titan and then go all the way back to school by 4:00pm for senior studio. i got stuck in traffic and had to call to let scott know i was going to be late. i haven't had a chance to scan the film yet but i think i'm going to be happy with it.

later i met up with daniel at his place in ferndale to go skate at this free park in troy. the park was closed since it was after hours but we went and skated it anyways. a couple cops drove by and one stopped and just watched us for a bit. i was worried we were going to get a ticket but we kept skating and he didn't do anything so we kept on still. we both got tired pretty early so we just ended up leaving.

well, it rained all weekend that's the the aftermath of the hurricane down south. i slept it real late. the week took a toll on me. everyone kind of just sat on their computers all day and watched tv.

i had a long day a work today. not much sleep from the night before. my school work is already starting to bury me. after work i had to stop by home to pick up some stuff. i needed to grab my messenger bag for my long days i have classes since i don't have time to run back to my condo (let alone any time to eat lunch or dinner between 1-10pm).

i checked out the hassleblad this weekend again to do some more shooting. i really love working with this format a lot. i prefer it a little more over digital, simply for the output quality.

i finished my paperwork today for the nike internship i'll be working on this semester. i can't really share too many details right now, other i'll be working with five other students here (product designers and graphic designers) designing a basketball shoe. i'm extremely excited to begin this project.

later nick drove with me to drop off my hassleblad film form the previous shoot (which we were late getting to the lab but were able to drop it off anyways). we then went to somerset and walked around for a bit but found nothing worthwhile.

tonight i went to go shoot rzl dzl at this sneaker exchange benefit at st. andrews. for some reason, rzl dzl got cut and i just ended up leaving.

on my way home from work today i picked up a pizza from dearborn italian bakery. i haven't gotten pizza from here in ages and have been craving it lately. i brought it back and me and dustin split the entire thing. if you know how big these are then you'll understand how full we probably were.

i got this flannel last week because i was so stoked on the colors in it. i ordered a small and it definitely fits bigger then a small. i thought of getting it tailored but today i decided to throw a hoodie under it and it works perfectly.

i almost made a breakthrough today on my senior thesis film. it's all finally coming together now and i'm really excited to begin production.

after a long day at work i really didn't want to do anything when i got back.

rina came over and we watched texas chainsaw massacre 4 on fearnet. it was terrible.

dustin and me went up to the roof later that night to talk about school & life. it's weird to finally have best friends. i never really did growing up and now i get to live with them. after we came back we both worked a bit more and then dustin ended up falling alseep on the couch.

after work today me, nick, and dustin rode our bikes to the dally in the alley street fair. there really wasn't much we could do since we couldn't bring our bikes in so we just rode around for awhile. we headed back to our condo and hung out for a bit and took this picture of dustin. i think is one of my favorite pictures i've shot so far with the hasselblad. i can't wait to start using the 400nc 120 film.

later on that night i went back to dally in the alley by myself. having alone time in a crowded place always seems to make me feel even more alone despite the masses around me.

today i went and checked out the medium format hasselbald. i was excited to find out there was still film in the polaroid back (and even more excited to see it had a polaroid back.) i took some pictures of nick and dustin and just couldn't believe the image quality. it makes me never want to use digital again.

nate and me went walking around taking some photos and then on the way back in we saw the basset hound that lives in our building outside with her owner. we went up to talk to her and took a picture of casey.

later that night i met up with nick, nate, and james and skated at the new modern park in royal oak (even though it isn't open yet.) it was the first time i've skated a bowl in almost three years. i was shaky at first but they i got ahold of it and was having such a blast.

today i had presentations in senior studio. talking about my work is the most uncomfortable thing to do. especially when it's just in draft form. i made a fool of myself stumbling through my entire presentation. my story isn't there -- it's not working.

for sound design we went to ann arbor to see our teacher perform in a play. afterwards me and jake met up with rachel and got pizza and hung out at the elbow room with nick.

we finally got digital cable and internet again. sorry i have been slacking on the updates. wireless isn't so reliable. i assure you though, i'm still shooting and i am still writing.

rina came over after class and brought me mashed potatos. i hadn't eaten much of anything all day since i was in class. we ended up watching the best of christopher walken from snl, which is always classic.

had my first day of classes today. i went from 1-10pm. such a long day. i think i'm going to like all of my classes but this sound design class. i feel like my professor has no idea what he's doing. i'm trying to stay positive about it though.

i haven't had a chance to ride my bike and we all still haven't gone out riding as a group yet. nick doesn't have a bike so we're waiting for him to get on that.

tonight nick, avanthi, rina, and courtney came over to hang out for a bit. we saw some of our neighbors on the 3rd floor and nick had a great time talking to them and making signs. it got a little out of hand and nick had us all rolling on the floor. hanging out with nick is always a guaranteed good time.

today i got up real early to go to the belle isle grand prix and viper event with my dad. we got to run a couple laps around the track in the car and then went to the hospitality tent for some breakfast. it was pretty hot most of the day but the race was enjoyable.

after i got home from work today my best friends had all moved in. it's so awesome to be living with them. there is so much positive and creative energy flowing in our room that it just makes me want to work so much.

i woke up around noon today. didn't sleep too well since it was on a couch but being with my friends in an amazing city, i don't mind. we hung around for a bit and then i headed back to the bus stop to go home. i ended up picking up this hat that i found at belmont army and got in a cab. i thought i was going to be late to the stop because we got stuck in rush hour so i flew out of the cab when i got there. luckly the bus hadn't got there yet and we actually left chicago a half hour late. my parents picked me up from the stop and then they dropped me off at my condo.

i wore my new boots i got the previous day the whole day. i love them so much. i'm so picky about boots especially so when i find a pair i like i usually wear them out pretty fast.

8/28/08

i got up real early this morning after a long night out and cleaning up in my room for when nick, nate and dustin move in today. my mom picked me up for the megabus and was headed to chicago by 8:00am. I slept most of the way there. I don't remember what state we were in, but it's so weird seeing people ride motorcycles with out helmets in person.

When we got in, I walked into downtown (passing the "gotham national bank" from the dark knight) and headed to diesel to say hi to matt and scott and see some of the new collection. Afterwards I walked around to a few more shops and then met up with caitlin and correy and their friend dez. We went and got pizza that night at chili-mac's and then stayed in and watched she-devil with brad, jesse, dave, and amy.

8/27/08

tonight i went to go see e for explosion play in southgate. after jamison covington's departure from jamsionparker, he began his solo project which went under various name changes. i got in contact with him as he began to write new music and we started working on some design work for the new outing.

up until today we had only communicated by e-mail since the last time they tried to play here their equiptment was stolen the show right before. i shot show photos of the show and we going to take some portraits outside when my camera died. my battery had just a little bit of light left later on in the evening. next time they are back we are planning to do ones a lot better. we ended up all just hanging out eating pizza and talking about music, bikes, what detroit is like, and the industry. they're really some of the most genuie people i've ever met and extremely talented.

tonight rina, courtney, nick, andrew, jacquie, lisa, and matzat all came over to hang out and then we had a a sleepover. lisa and matzat left early which was a bummer. we ended up gettin sgt. pepperoni's and watching 28 weeks later. i always sleep real bad at sleepovers.

we went on the roof at 3:30am and saw a building on fire though.

i go through these phases where i don't shave for awhile for some weird reason. identity crisis or apathy -- who knows. i shaved today. i never recognize myself after the fact for a couple days, then it just all falls into place.

tonight i went to joe louis to go photograph def leppard, styx, and reo speedwagon for olympia. i got to stay for the whole show which was entertaining. i love being able to shoot in venues such as this because the light is always phenominal.

after work today i stopped by modern skate and surf and got some new skate shoes. i haven't got a regular skate brand specific shoe in years. they skate real good though, mostly just because it's a half cab rip off.

later andrew came over and we rode our bikes to belle isle around the race track they have set up for the upcoming weekend race. the best part was the crazy guy yelling at us for going on the new bike trail they're building over the old train tracks and threatening to call the police. when he himself looked like someone you would call the police on. super sketchy.

so i moved into my new place today. it's so spacious. i'm way into it. i can't believe i'm going to be living here with my best friends for the next year.

tonight rina, nick, and courtney came over to check out the new place and visit. we ended up getting pizza and watching the bob saget roast. most hilarous.

after work today johnny came down and we drove out to west bloomfield to go skate the park there. we met up with nick, nate, adam, and mike for a bit but they took off a little bit later. after skating for a couple hours we stopped in royal oak and grabbed noodles and co and then headed back to detroit. after johnny left i met up with caitlyn, rina, courtney, huey avanthi, andrew, jacquie, lisa, and nick in livonia to go see the dark knight. granted it was my fifth time seeing it but i still enjoyed it. afterwards caitlyn, rina, huey, nick, courtney, and me went to zacks in plymouth to eat and then headed home.

my new bike tires had came in the mail yesterday but i didn't have time to put them on so my dad dropped them off with my new rims at our local bike place and they said they'd be done today. eagerly i rushed to the bike shop at noon to pick them up and they still weren't done so i had to wait. come to find out i needed a new lock ring for the back cog since it wouldn't fit so i had to drive all the way to clawson to get a different one. after picking that up i came back and put it all together. it rides like a dream and looks better then i'd imagine it would have. later on that night i went for a ride with pat and our friend chris.

i woke up late today since i didn't have to go into work until the afternoon. it's weird having to share a room after not having to for a year and a half. pat is still moving his stuff so until then i guess i'm still living alone.

i wish i could spend a summer out here. actually, i wish i could go further north, or even further. i have a weird obsession with solitude and serenity in my surroundings. not when i'm living in detroit, but getting away. i remember being in australia and sleeping out for two night in the middle of the outback and not wanting to sleep because i just wanted to stare up at the sky all night and gaze in awe at the billions and billions of stars. it was overwhelming and relaxing. every time i look up at night in the summer i hope for the same feeling i had that one summer and can't seem to get it back.

ever since i can remember my dad and me have been going to see nascar races every summer. it's our one thing we would always do together. even though i'm not as much of a car enthusiast as my dad, i still enjoy it. i don't get to see him or spend as much time with him as i use to anymore so it's our only real bonding time that we really get to have anymore and i really cherish it with all my heart.

today my friend rachel came down and we went to the zoo. i haven't been in awhile and she had never been before. i always love going there, i just wish there was a sea world nearby to go to.

after work today i went and got miller's with kirk. i haven't been there in awhile and i ended up eating two cheeseburgers and it just put me out.

i spent the whole day moving all of my stuff over to the park shelton. my parents came down to help out again. my dad and me went out to dinner afterwards and then i drove him home. my sister was in town for the weekend to go to a wedding so it was good to see her for a bit.

i couldn't have ever imagined living in a building this nice. the condo is beautiful, the view is amazing and i'm going to be living with three of my favorite people and closest friends.

the best part of it is, i get to retire to this view every night.

my parents came down to help me pack up everything for the big move tomorrow. i'm so fortunate to have such generous parents. i don't tell them enough how much i really love them and appreciate them.

after eating dinner with them at slow's, i came back to my apartment and got a text from my friend olivia asking me to go to a open house for my friend alex's birthday. the party was nice but we all got tired and left. on the way home we saw a house on fire so i called 911 and we waited outside to make sure the fire department arrived. the fire chief thanked us and then we left.

we finally got rid of that broken tv in my room by taking it to a trash pile and breaking it. it was alex's birthday gift.

tonight is dustin's last night of living here at school. this summer was one of the best summers i've ever had. being able to spend it with one of my best friends as my next door neighbor and hanging out every day made every day an adventure.

i didn't eat dinner tonight, insted i sat down and killed a whole bag of mestquite bbq chips.

my holga came in the mail today with the polaroid back that i wont off ebay. come to find out, the polaroid film used for the back has been out of production for a couple years now so it's no good. i guess it's still in high demand for the people that have it but the camera is a blast. i can't wait to get my hands on the hasselblad in a month or so. i love the look of medium format film.

i stayed up really late tonight finishing my final draft of my treatment for my senior thesis film. i'm really excited to begin production on it and think it's going to turn out well. i'm still having a hard time casting it. all i can really say about it is that it's going to feel very airy/dreamlike and soothing, even though the subject matter is so dark.

i went to the magic stick tonight to go see tilly & the wall with dustin, adam, nick, nate, and mike. i ran into katie who i never see anymore which was nice. i haven't gotten real crazy at a show in awhile since most of the time i'm always shooting or have a lot of equipment with me. it was nice to take in the show from an entertainment stand point for once and just enjoy the company of my friends.

after work today i stopped by target to see if they got the shaun white collection shirts in and they did. i got this shirt in black and white. plaid button-downs are my crutch. i have so many. afterwards i met up with my parents and i took them to slow's bbq in detroit for the first time. we all go ribs and it was amazing. i feel so full.

i spent the rest of the night editing the film i shot with nate saturday and starting to get everything in order to turn in this week for finals for summer school and then moving into my new condo sunday and monday.

8/2/08

nate came down today and we rode bikes around and shot two rolls of film and some pack film. this is the first time i think i've ever gotten anything in focus using that camera and a decent coposition. the viewfider on all colorpack cameras are awful and you can't see your focus either so you have to judge by distance. i like how the photo is a little overexposed as well. the color really pops on that format. i took the photos to one hour photo and was worried about them being a little over exposed but they were actually dead on. it was weird because the light meter was acting funky the whole time.

afterwards we got pizza at the magic stick. nick and adam ironically walked in and we hung out with them and then went skating in dearborn at dearborn high. we kept trying to get adam to go see eddie money with us at homecoming but he didn't want to go. we got hot and readys from little caesars and then went to adam's where he showed us his amazing clothing collection consisting mostly of 1990's sports team apparel. later, we ended up driving to royal oak and met up with olivia and nichole for a bit.

i worked close with ashley tonight. i really don't get to see her as much as i'd like to. even though we don't hang outside of work as much she's one of the people i care about the most in my life in my circle of friends.

i got slow's carry out because i really didn't get to eat much today. i'm glad they have these new containers for the mac and cheese instead of styrofoam.

after work, pat drove me back to cycleworks with my bike and they tried to fix it and they said putting the spacer in and stretching the frame is normal (which sounds abnormal) said they put it back on and there was no way it was going to fall off. doubting them, i went and took it for a ride and sure enough the cog and lock-ring flew off along with the chain. they ended up deciding that the particular cog wasn't going to work and just put in a freewheel.

i'm glad it took them three tries to figure it out.

i got out of class today excited to ride my bike but dusty wasn't feeling very well so i figured i could at least go for a short ride by myself. when i got my bike, pat was getting his and so i went to go ride with him. we got to wayne state and while crossing woodward the chain popped off along with the lock-ring and the cog completely unthreaded itself. i had to carry my bike all way back to my apartment. so angry.

i had dustin take me back to cycleworks today to get my bike fixed since they didn't do it right the first time. apparently it needed a spacer and when they gave it to me it was dangerous to ride because the cog didn't have a spacer. i was so angry i had to go all the way back out there. it seems to work fine now.

oh and my raekwon x diamond shirt finally came after ordering it on the fourth.

looks like a peugeot x wu-tang bike now.

we had a work meeting tonight where after we had to make a video about our store to send to corporate. being the kid with the camera and going to school for film i got excited to work on it. everyone seemed a bit stubborn and first and then once we got going it was just one big party. everyone was constantly laughing and throwing out hilarious ideas.

i was so happy to see ashley this morning when i got to work. i felt like i had been away for weeks. we talked about how much we liked the new collection and how mini-camp was for her in miami for diesel. after work i went home and got my stuff and headed back downtown. i have such a mess of clothes to put away. i hate unpacking.

later the night i went and got dinner with dustin and dropped my bike off at cycle works to get it tuned up since i've been having problems with it. later on we went to see the dark knight with him since he had not seen it yet. it was just as good the second time around.

before leaving for the airport ryan took some photos of nate and me for 'good friends' cereal and then took some portraits of me outside. i can't wait to see how they turned out. he's such an amazing and inspiring person. i've learned so much from him in these past few days and wish i could have spent more time with him. he's one of the most kind and generous people i've ever met.

my flight was late leaving and we got stuck on the runway for 45 minutes with no air conditioning in the plane. i made small talk with the lady next to me and told her how glad i was i was wearing my bart simpson tank top because it was so hot in the plane. upon landing my mom picked me up and we went to millers and then went home to relax. i ended up playing video games by myself and renting juice from blockbuster but after going in our hot tub, which i haven't done in months.

7/21/08

i got ready pretty early today because of how nervous i was for my interview over at crush. i got there almost twenty minutes early. sweating from how hot it was and climbing seven flights i was nervous but excited to meet everyone. everything went great and the office was amazing. afterwards i was asked to come out in september but had to decline due to finishing school so i'm lined up to move out to new york city in may to begin working at crush management. i'm one step closer to being where i want to be. there is now light at the end of this tunnel.

afterwards i dragged nate to the diesel store in lexington where i met the staff there. everyone was great and i was hoping to see mike but he had his day off. i got some new clothes and then we met up with ryan and headed back to williamsburg for the evening. on the way back after getting dinner at this amazing pizza place we found an open fire hydrant and it was so hot out that nate and me ran through it. i walked the rest of the way back shirtless and wet from water and sweat with the biggest grin on my face.

all the smiles are real now.

7/20/08

we woke up around 11:30 and got ready to go and skate the whole day. ryan was going to the lab to work on the photos from the day before so me and nate were on our own. we skated at this park in williamsburg for a bit with one of nate's friends and then headed over to the brooklyn banks. by the time we got there we were so hot and sweaty that we barely had any energy left to skate but we did anyways. i was suppose to meet up with my friend scott who moved to manhattan about a year ago but he got caught up in work and moving into a new apartment.

later that night we went and saw the dark knight. i wasn't disappointed in the slightest. ledger did an amazing job as the joker. the dark knight is definitely the empire strikes back of our generation. the movie ended around 3am because we went to such a late showing so the subway was pretty empty, except for the homeless man we saw masturbating at the other end of the subway.

i landed in new york city around noon and was more then ecstatic to see my best friend of the first time in months. from there ryan, nate, and alfie drove me to ryan's place in brooklyn to drop off my bags at the apartment and then i changed and got some water before we headed to philly so that ryan could photograph someone for a magazine job he's working on. when we got to philly, me, alfie, and nate walked around and i stopped in the diesel store there and picked up some stuff from the new collection that looks super nice. after that we found a stoop and just stooped until ryan called us to let us know he was done and then we got some food and headed back to brooklyn. when we got there we went and got vegan ice cream from this amazing ice cream place and then went to bed after the long day.

warped tour always lands on the hottest day of the year for some reason. i ended up wearing a white v-neck which i later threw in my bag and put on a orlando magic shaq jersey (which later resulted in the worst sunburn i've ever had.) i shot quite a few artists today and spent some time with jordan who was with rina and courtney because they had been with them for a couple of the dates. i met up with gabe after their set and went to the bus with the rest of the guys to cool off for a bit and later went with travis and another band to an after party at the state theater.

all and all it was a great day, minus the sunburn.

oh and i'm still packing and i leave tomorrow at 8am.

after class me and dustin went to royal oak to meet up with andrea and get noodles and co. i made andrea take us to target because i needed some undershirts before leaving for nyc because of how hot nate has been telling me it is and i figure all i'm going to wear is white shirts and tank tops the whole time i'm there (minus the day of my interview with crush.) i still don't know what i'm going to wear and that means i don't know what shoes to bring. i hate packing.

tonight i went a photographed all time low and hit the lights at st. andrews hall. i've photographed all time low a few times and they were one of the first bands to give me a shot by letting me come in with them at warped tour last year. they've really come a long way since then. i got my best results from shooting them this time around.

after class i went and shot storyboards for my senior thesis film with dustin. afterwards we were on our way to dearborn to go to rose garden and stop by my house to get a different suitcase and saw georgina the st. bernard outside. we decided to go pet her for a bit.

tonight adam came down because a boutique wants to carry his line so i did some product shots and portraits of him for the store and their bio of him.

afterwards dustin and me went for a bike ride and i did some skating. i met a kid named juwan from florida that was staying here with his aunt and hasn't met anyone that skateboards so he was real glad to finally see someone . i don't really have anyone to skate down here with so i'm excited to go shred with him.

i leave for new york in less then a week for an internship interview at crush management and while i was at work my mom put this suitcase in my car. granted i'll only be there less then four days but i still don't think this is big enough for me to take. i'm indecisive when it comes to packing. i'll need to go home and find a bigger one when i get the chance.

i'm glad i get to stay with nate and his friend ryan. i havnen't seen my best friend almost all summer.

7/12/08 [happy birthday dad]

i asked my friend gabrielle from chicago what she wanted for her birthday and she said pizza. so i'm getting a hot and ready pizza today i got a shipping label and box from work and am going to stuff the whole pizza in the box and i'm drawing monsters all over it. her birthday is tuesday and it has an overnight label so hopefully when it ships out monday she'll get it just in time.

after work i got the chance to go and skate for the rest of the day with my really good friend andrew in livonia. i've never really skated there before so we went to some pretty sick spots. i ended up slamming real hard about an hour into it. we finished skating this spot and then went to a gas station to go get napkins and water so i could clean it out.

after class tonight me and dustin went and hung out with nichole and joe in royal oak. we ended up going to the post bar in ferndale. as usual, i was the only one not drinking. i just hate leaving bars and having my clothes smell.

tonight i got the chance to photograph van morrison at the fox theater. i left real early for the show and was still late because traffic was so bad cause of the baseball game and olympia still hasn't given me a parking pass or id badge.

after class today i went by adray with dustin to get a camera bag since it was about the same price there as it was on b&h. it's going to come in real handy for shows and especially warped tour coming up. afterwards dustin and me went and got food at this chinese restaurant called rose garden in dearborn. i've never been there before and heard it was great. i got the orange chicken and it was way to sweet for my taste. dustin was all about it.

the summer heat makes me irritable. after spending my days working dealing with people it makes me less and less of a people person. i constantly feel out of order.

i went to meijer after work to get groceries. i like going late at night because then i don't have to deal with people.

after working all day i came back to campus to find that all the high school students have moved in for camp portfolio. this means that when i go to wait for the elevator i have to deal with a bunch of kids pushing all the buttons in the elevator, in result, making it break which just makes me even more crabby then i usually am.

dusty and me ended up going skating while listening to the ramones and grandmaster flash on his jambox. afterwards we met up with tricia and shanna and went and got chinese food and ate it back here on campus.

i hate that in the summer time i can't really layer without sweating to death so i resort to this scarf a lot since i can't wear hoodies, long-sleeve button-downs, and jackets.

i woke up fairly late due to being out real late last night. i ended up meeting up with my friend symantha in royal oak and walking around and people watching. royal oak is prime people watching after 10pm.

7/4/08 [independence day]

today me and dusty rode our bikes as usual except today nichole came down and we rode to cityfest to see broken social scene play. we met up with adam and his girlfriend, nick, rachel, olivia, and her friend. afterwards we went to nichole's for pizza and watched battle royale.

joe came upstairs during the movie to give dusty this hug.

after leaving fairly late we met olivia at her friend chad's house a few blocks from where me and dusty live. the apartment set up was one big hallway with all the doors to the rooms on the right and windows all on the left. pretty interesting. we stayed there until about 6am and then walked back.

after class today me and dusty rode our bikes down to city fest to see the zombies play. we met up with dusty's friend leah for a bit and then rode back to school. i really need to get new tires. i feel unsafe riding fast with no treads on them. i guess for them being over 30 years old it makes sense.
